Sweet and Spicy Brown Ale Snack Mix

Sweet and Spicy Brown Ale Snack Mix

I’m a winter girl. But if there is one thing that gets me really excited for spring, it’s baseball. I know other people get excited about the weather, spring cleaning, March Madness. But for me, it’s baseball. Even if it’s watching the game from home (what up, MLBtv!?), I’m kicking back with a good beer and some yummy game day snacks.

This is one I’ll be sure to make this season. It’s a super easy snack mix made with a sweet and spicy brown ale glaze. It’s a few minutes on the stove top and 20 minutes in the oven. This is no bagged snack mix from the drug store. This is going to knock your fucking socks off.

Get your spring on. Whip up a batch of Sweet and Spicy Brown Ale Snack Mix and kick back with a beer.

Below is the recipe as it appeared on DrinkingCraft.com on February 26, 2014.

Sweet & Spicy Brown Ale Snack Mix
6 cups air-popped popcorn
2 cups Honey Nut Cheerios
2 cups pretzels
2 cups Craisins
12 oz cashews
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup Samuel Smith’s Nut Brown Ale
½ tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 400°.

In a very large bowl, combine popcorn, Cheerios, pretzels, Craisins and cashews. Set aside.

In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in brown sugar, until dissolved. Slowly add in Nut Brown Ale, then finish off with cayenne, chili powder and salt. Continue to cook over medium heat for 10-12 minutes, until it starts to thicken.

Drizzle glaze over mixture and lightly toss with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula until fully covered.

Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Dump half the snack mix on each cookie sheet and spread out into a thin layer. Bake for 20 minutes. Allow to cool, then empty into a serving bowl.

If you don’t like it spicy, feel free to omit the cayenne pepper and chili powder and it will be sweet and awesome.
